Imogen Heap / Love The Earth webcast

Last Friday saw the culmination of a couple of month’s hard work with Imogen’s show at the Royal Albert Hall in London where she preceded her usual concert with a audio/visual spectacular -the Love The Earth project.

The entire performance was webcast in HD, more about that below…

“Nov 5th Rebild Productions (rebild.tv) conducted the first ever free and embbedable full 1080HD on Akamai’s HD network for the premiere of Love the Earth crowd sourced nature film followed by Imogen Heap’s rock show at the London Royal Albert Hall.

482000 live stream sessions (split between between microsoft silverlight and adobe flash players) were logged meaning audience was just shy of half a million viewers multiplying hundred fold the Royal Albert Hall audience -  and competing with the largest musical acts.

Imogen Heap’s magical talent and loyal social network active fan base rippled through the web cutting out need for heavy advertising and promotion. Rebild team introduced the webcast to BoingBoing and Inhabitat, and many more high leverage online publications making a great number of people aware of the event.

Part of the success came from the adaptive bandwidth technology making it seemless for viewers to experience the best possible quality. The live mix was fed through BT satelite to BT tower, then fiber to akamai all the way to Las Vegas were live encoders delivered 7 different bitrate encodings to both flash and silverlight, then spread around the globe…

Partners Chris Courtney and Thomas Ermacora cofounded the company in Paris in 2005 to deliver unique webcasts and develop newmedia content. This show demonstrates that liveHD webcasting is hot and audiences around the world want to be able to have a spectacular experience online.”

Imogen Heap - Love The Earth (a film project)

Imogen Heap - Love The Earth

Imogen’s latest project is a crowd-sourced nature film to accompany an orchestral score she is writing for her Royal Albert Hall concert this November and is yet another great example of how a musician can engage with their fans to create something truly collaborative.

We recently helped Imogen set up http://www.lovetheearthfilm.org where she is inviting fans to upload their footage of nature to a YouTube or Vimeo group - her film editor will then select the best clips and edit the film to the orchestral piece she is writing, which will then be projected as she conducts the orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. The film and concert will be webcast live for those unable to attend - watch this space!

On Friday 19th Feb Imogen played in front of a sold out crowd at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

During the show Imogen recorded a live improvised piece of music, where the key, tempo and time signature were chosen by the audience 30 seconds before she started. ”The Shepherdess” is what the audience heard.

All the proceeds from sales of “The Shepherdess” are going to Great Ormond Street hospital in London who helped save Imogen’s leg when she was just 12 months old.

In true Imogen style, the artwork for the download was crowd-sourced from fans who attended the show. If the download is deemed a success for the charity Imogen hopes to perform a live improvisation at every show on her upcoming North American tour, donating the proceeds of downloads to a charity in each city.

Dan Whitehouse appears in Ray Gosling documentary

Replenish New Media client Dan Whitehouse recently appeared in what has turned out to be a controversial BBC Documentary.

This BBC Inside Out documentary discusses different types of burial and assisted suicide and includes a very personal admission from veteran broadcaster Ray Gosling that has made headline news.

Dan said: “I appear in a scene filmed at Ray’s house, where he hears for the first time the song I was requested to write for his funeral.”

“Whilst certain to cause heated and varied reactions, I think Ray has made a poignant and valid input into this ongoing public debate on death.”

Imogen Heap wins a Grammy Award!

Imogen Heap wins a Grammy

We’d like to wish Replenish client Imogen Heap congratulations for her Grammy win last night!

Imogen took home the Grammy for “Best Engineered Album, Non Classical” for her latest album “Ellipse” which she produced and engineered herself, making her the first female artist in Grammy history to win this award!

Not to be outdone by 2007’s outfit which featured lilly pads and a toy frog, this year Imogen’s ‘Twitdress’ included an LED necklace which displayed a live Twitter feed showing fan’s messages, and a transparent handbag complete with an embedded iPhone displaying Twitpic photos that fans sent to her via Twitter.

Replenish were on hand assisting Imogen on the night. From here in the UK we tested the Twitter and Twitpic photo feed shortly before Imogen took to the red carpet and then proceeded to spend the night moderating all of the content sent to Imogen’s necklace and handbag to avoid any potential offending messages.

The ‘Twitdress’ went down a storm with the music and tech press alike – the perfect accompaniment to a Grammy award!

Check out some great photos of Imogen on the red carpet and receiving her award at Socialite Life

Rogue States release debut single ‘Lights’ on 8th March

Rogue States - Lights EP

A band shaped by experience, classic pop and restless minds, Rogue States arrive uniquely accomplished; a breakthrough act with a debut EP fit to rival any “third album classic” you care to mention. The Birmingham four piece (David Wright, Michael Clarke, Steve Clarke, Stuart Baxter Wilkinson) supported Razorlight on their March 2009 UK tour, forming a close friendship with then drummer Andy Burrows in particular who subsequently paid for the recording of the band’s debut EP.

A quietly monumental collection of extremes: tenderly intimate and shudderingly epic, a calming respite and rousing call to arms, the lonely ache of doubt and the surging joy of a crowd pleasing anthem. From the lightness of Surrender’s questioning to the reinvigorating groundswell of Lights; from Faultline’s powerful whisper to Kings Of The Ghost Town Mile’s rallying cry.

The Lights EP will be available worldwide from iTunes on 8th March 2010.

Imogen Heap charts at #5 on the Billboard Top 200!

Imogen Heap

We’re delighted to report that after a lot of very hard work by everyone involved, long-time Replenish client Imogen Heap is finally getting the recognition she deserves with her new album ‘Ellipse’ debuting at #5 on the Billboard Top 200!

The album (which you can listen now) also came in at #1 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic album chart, #1 on the Billboard Internet album chart, #2 on the Billboard Digital album chart, #3 on the Billboard Alternative album chart, #4 on the Billboard Rock album chart, #4 on the Canadian album chart, and #39 on the UK Top 40 album chart!

Here’s what Music Week had to say:

“Leading the Brit pack, singer/songwriter Imogen Heap’s second album Ellipse sold 48,000 copies to debut at number five, comprehensively beating the number 145 peak of her 2005 debut, Speak For Yourself. Despite its modest chart place, Speak For Yourself was nominated for a pair of Grammy awards and saw several of its songs used on popular TV shows, helping it to eventually achieve sales of 431,000 copies, while its most successful track, Hide And Seek, fell short of the Hot 100 but has sold more than 685,000 copies on download.

The digital format is also much favoured by buyers of Ellipse, accounting for 29,000 of the album’s sales last week. That is enough for it to debut at number two on the digital albums chart. It goes one better on the Electronic/Dance chart, where it debuts at number one. Introductory single First Train Home saw a 161% spike in sales after Heap performed it on David Letterman’s show and enters the Top 200 digital songs list at number 197, with sales of 7,500 increasing its overall tally to 43,000.”

Much has been said about our efforts with Imogen’s online campaign, and we’re chuffed to see that it’s paid off for her!
